Owen Wister (July 14, 1860 July 21, 1938) was an American writer and historian, considered the "father" of western fiction. He is best remembered for writing The Virginian and a biography of Ulysses S. Grant. Andy Adams (18591935) was one of the few writers of the West who had a knowledge based on experience that enabled him to record cowboy life authentically. Clarence Edward Mulford (3 February 1883 10 May 1956) was the creator of the character Hopalong Cassidy.
